Day 88 Monday April 8 Rest day in Planet Baobab Campground

by Henry

Rest day at Planet Baobab campground.

The lake last night was completely absorbed by the parched earth.

Most of us spent the morning drying out our tents and anything that might have gotten wet overnight.

With a short walk around the property, several giant baobab trees commanded our attention.

Up close, the bark feels more like stone than wood. Supposedly, they have no tree rings. The core is 15% fiber and 85% water. The diameter of the tree trunk contracts and expands depending on the quantity of the water in the soil.

This tree is estimated to be between 3000 to 4000 years old.

Baobab tree fruit. It can be cracked open like a coconut and the individual white seed pods can be chewed and sucked on. The internal brown seeds can then be ground up and made into a coffee-like drink.

A few of the bikers upgraded, and the huts were very quaint and well-appointed.

The swimming pool with inviting clear chlorinated water was a popular place to lounge around for most of the day.

The bar was also a very comfortable place to relax.

Artistic signage for the restrooms.

TDA provided breakfast, we had lunch served by the resort, and TDA then provided a lasagna dinner.

The bar’s chandeliers are made of Amstel Light bottles.

Fortunately, there was no more rain today or this evening. All in all, a very restful day much appreciated by everyone.

We will go back to basics tomorrow at another bush camp.
