Day 85 Friday April 5 Kasane to Pandamatenga

by Henry

106 km traveled, 413 m total ascent, 31°C maximum. There was a mix of crosswind and headwind today. No tailwind to help us.

Hippos came in from the Chobe River to visit our campsite this morning. They are 25 m from where I had my tent set up. Fortunately, there is a fence.

In comparison to the other countries, Botswana is very flat.  We are on the “Elephant Highway,” which extends from Kasane to Nata. This region is not agrarian so there are no villages or people where we are riding.

We encountered three herds of elephants today while riding. We kept the recommended minimum 200 m distance.

We did pass by one area that had a giant crop of sunflowers.

We are camping near, but not in, the town of Pandamatenga.

Almost all of us arrived at camp before 1 PM, so we spent the afternoon relaxing around the bar.

We have to cover 300 km in the next two days, which will be a challenge because it is hot.
