At breakfast, the Indian hotel owner told me that she has owned this hotel for 35 years. She was born in Tanzania; her family immigrated from India many generations ago. She and her husband also own several other businesses; including a gas station, and a rice milling company.

Riders got to work right away with laundry, other rest day chores, and Hunts got his hair clipped en plein air (far right of photo).

We walked a kilometer to a nearby grocery mart to pick up a light lunch. We passed the main post office. There were many PO boxes on the side of the building.
At the grocery store, the Indian clerk recommended that I try this traditional Bengali flavored ice cream. Ingredients include saffron, cardamom, pistachio, cashews, almonds. Delicious.
I used Google translate to decipher this cryptic sign in the hotel lobby.
Four riders had birthdays yesterday and today, including Joan, so a party was necessary. She could really celebrate, because her purloined items had been recovered, otherwise it would have been very somber for her.

Tim and Jeff needed both ice cream AND a milkshake after dinner.
Financial transactions at the hotel were painfully slow, both to pay for dinner, and to pay for our hotel rooms. Paper was used for record keeping. There was not a single computer on the property.
It was a restful day after a hard week. We cross the border into Malawi tomorrow.
