We left camp at 6:30 AM after a 6 AM breakfast to drive a different loop around the Serengeti plains. We had the luxury of leaving our tent up to dry because we were coming back to camp for lunch, and would not have to decamp until then.
New animals seen today (and not yesterday) include jackal, hippos, topi, lions feeding on a hippo, banded mongoose, warthog, Cape buffalo, eland, cheetah.
Morning silhouette of a giraffe.
A herd of impalas.
Stately pose by an impala.
Not the best picture, but the lions are eating a hippo that they took down.
Came upon another pride of lions, sleeping it off after gorging.
Innumerable zebra stretching to the horizon.
A slinky cheetah.
One of our seven Land Cruisers had a front wheel bearing failure, and the vehicle had to be left behind. Those passengers were squeezed into the other six remaining vehicles.
After lunch, we backtracked to the rim of Ngorongoro crater for our campsite tonight, with an imposing fig tree as the centerpiece.
Dinner was not served again until 8:30 PM, and we were told to be ready for breakfast at 5:30 AM. We would be starting the third day of our safari at 6 AM.
