Day 25 Monday February 5 Rest Day at Lake Bunyonyi

by Henry

We moved forward an hour in time zones when we crossed into Uganda and I woke up unusually late at 7 AM.

It did rain in the morning, so I was grateful for the cottage upgrade.

Tim had a harder than average day yesterday, and it was not hard last night to convince him to sleep under the cover of our cottage entrance, to avoid another potential deluge.

The campsite itself was very nice.

Due to the rain, many people crowded under the pavilion roof to either stay dry, or dry off their tents.

This very cute toddler caught my eye, playing a game on a phone that he could barely hold. His mother was staffing the fair trade gift shop just to his left.

After our breakfast buffet at the camp lodge, we took a stroll to a very small village, half a kilometer away.  People are extremely poor; construction is very simple and I wonder how it all holds together.

The local open air market was selling both used and new clothing, old and new shoes, fruits and vegetables, various sundries, and small snacks.

Goats have been everywhere in Rwanda, and also Uganda.

Apparently, we are at the deepest lake in Uganda.

Very old hand-carved boats.

Everyone took advantage of the rest day to recharge. Many got massages, and the masseuse had a fully packed schedule. As evening approached, we gathered for a dinner buffet at the lodge. As is the norm, everyone retired early.
