The Red Sea mountains during the long climb.
Lunch stop was at 65 km. An exact clone to replace Dougie had been found in a local store.
After lunch, we had a pretty tight police escort for the remaining 40 km. They corralled us into groups of 10 riders and followed us closely until we reached our destination. Although we had a a gradual 43 km downhill ride, this was tempered and made less enjoyable by a relatively strong headwind.
We are camping in an unpaved parking lot at a Coke stop. Many tour buses going to and from Luxor stop here. There is a large souvenir shop to the left and a large cafe/snack shop to the right.
Afternoon soup was at 2 PM and everyone enjoyed the shade in the snack shop.
Our tent city in the parking lot. Zero cell service and no Wi-Fi.
Jeff arrived at camp with a slowly deflating rear tire, so he changed out that tube. After that he discovered a flat front tire as well - a rare double flat day.
Tomorrow, we will reach the Nile River Valley and Luxor, where we will enjoy another rest day. There will be optional travel excursions to include a hot air balloon ride, and/or a guided tour of the many historic temples. USD or euros only, no credit cards please.
Camping in the unpaved parking lot seems to check a box which need not be checked again! Wishing you all plush green grassy spots in the future!
